No Scotland, No party: Street style and the Tartan Army
Scotland's on fire.
The Tartan Army is in America, and the world is obsessed. Honestly? Same.
Every day I wake up to see fans being completely, chaotically, irresistibly themselves — and I cannot stop watching. Coverage from The Boston Globe, New York Times, Dunkin' Donuts, and my personal favorite, a Sunday Scaries homage to Super John McGinn. It’s certainly not ‘sh*te being Scottish’ now.
I’m obsessed with what’s happening here at home, too. (Carrie Bradshaw voice) As I walked through Glasgow’s Barras last weekend, I noticed a sea of Scottish-themed outfits. I couldn’t help but wonder, are we really, finally, in the midst of a Scot girl summer?
I’ve never seen so many football tops
Football tops are a staple of patriotic style this season. The classic dark blue and the iconic new pink and purple. Retro thirds, vintage, and brands that just made a football top to mark the occasion.

Obsessed with this custom Adidas look from Scotland’s techno darling sim0ne for Terminal V festival.
Scot girls just wanna have fun
Football tops aren’t the only way Scots are getting in the spirit. Sophy Louise Illustration captured the feelings of a nation with Scot Girl Summer. I see this t-shirt every day. I bought one without hesitation. Gorge! Fun! Iconic!

And this isn’t the only t-shirt that lets us show our pride with our whole chest. I love the new collection from Hayley Scanlan, Pieute, and Trackie McLeod.

Wearing tartan is very punk rock
And what would Scottish fashion be without a little bit of tartan? When the Americans ask, ‘Do you wear the kilts every day??’ we can currently say, ‘eh…kinda.’
I’d like to take this opportunity to showcase Anabel Stewart Studio. I just adore the modern, wearable fashion take on Scottish heritage. Really timeless. I have my eye on a tie-back top.

Have a little fun with it
What Boston seems to have learned from the Tartan Army is just to have a little fun. It’s not that deep. Wear a silly little outfit, talk to strangers, be nice, don’t take things too seriously. And that is the take of the fashion girlies too. Creating an outfit for a theme? A joy, honestly. Beloved Glaswegian influencer, Jilly Isabella, shares her thoughts (and her fit).
It’s beautiful to have fans we can be proud of. Who showcase Scottish humour, kindness, style, charity, and charm. Who have a way of getting every other country to clap for us too. To sing our songs (which, to be fair, are infectious). I don’t really know enough about football to comment on how well the team is playing. But, to echo every Bostonian, every major news outlet, and one of our most popular chants, Scotland’s on fire.
